High temperature copper voice coil (51mm) and polyamide former withstands the most rigorous use while maintaining extremely low distortion for bass punch and output.
Nickel plated heavy duty input terminals accommodate speaker wire up to 8 AWG or twisted pairs of 12 AWG.
Carbon composite basket based on the spokes of a wheel is lightweight, will not flex during peaks and looks great! Don’t be afraid to show off the back of your woofer.
Klippel optimized components using a state-of-the-art Klippel distortion analyzer, Polk engineers were able to optimize the woofer’s motor structure, voice coil alignment and suspension for the best possible performance, even at extreme listening levels.

Shakes the block, loves 500 Watts,
Weaknesses:
none, even with 525 watts on each sub.
Review:
I have 2 in my GMC 1500, and I shake cars down the block! Best subs for the money. These put Kicker, Arc, Memphis, and Rockford to bed before they get warmed up. Overpower them just a bit and they will love you for it. Just make sure you have an amp willing to go down to at least 26 hz.

Review:
Great sub for the price! Was looking for a responsive sub that retained deep bass, and this sub does the job. Beats my old dvc kicker 12"

Shallow depth requirements, an amazing 4.65". Great for truck boxes or spare tire enclosures. Clean basket profile and excellent power handling. Light weight!
Weaknesses:
Would prefer the basket was cast aluminum or at least stamped steel. Being that the surround is higher than the mounting surface and the grille being optional, I have some concern about protection.
Review:
This is a clean and classy, gorgeous looking sub, which to my surprise actually performs as good as it looks! I have been a hardcore Alpine fan for at least the last 10 years and have been through a few different subs in this similar price range. This included the Alpine DVC 12" Type-R, Rockford Fosgate P2 and a few others not worth mentioning. None of which were as impressive as the MM1240. Right from the start you can hear better definition and distinction between bass notes. Considering this sub's technical specs, it would seem to perform better in a sealed enclosure and I would have to agree to that assessment. I've been installing and designing custom car audio systems for 15+ years and its been a very long time since I've been this impressed with a product in this price category. Way to Go Polk!

Extremely musical. If you don't want artificial/boomy bass, then this is the sub for you.
Weaknesses:
Makes you want another one if you only bought one!
Review:
Simply put; it excels in sound quality when compared to even more expensive models. Extremely tight and accurate bass. Whether it's easy listening, R&B and hip hop or heavy metal, this sub does it all with ease. Like any other sub, make sure you're giving it what it's rated for (or even more). Got one MM1240 (SVC) powered by a JL Audio Slash series 500/1 amp, and trust me it turns heads. Coupled with bi-amped/actively crossed SR6500's, this is by far the best car system I've ever heard/owned.

Weaknesses:
no grill
Review:
After using couple of subwoofers from kenwood, pioneer and double jbl subs, i moved to this sub in search of true SPL oriented performance. This is one of the best sounding sub i have ever heard, great sub. It replaced my two jbl sub's and believe it or not it sounds much much better and deeper than my two jbl subs. It can comfortably go much deeper than my two sub's to such a extend that if my vehicle is parked infront my house the windows of the house start rattling. It needs little power to shake the neighborhood, and it will not compromise on sound quality either. It is a must buy for every audiophile in the search of balance sub. I found the reviews on the net very helpful and accurate about this sub.
