MM1540DVC Features:
New polymer woofer cones and butyl rubber surrounds will not break down over time and will survive the rigors of harsh automotive environments.
High temperature copper voice coil (51mm) and polyamide former withstands the most rigorous use while maintaining extremely low distortion for bass punch and output.
Nickel plated heavy duty input terminals accommodate speaker wire up to 8 AWG or twisted pairs of 12 AWG.
Carbon composite basket based on the spokes of a wheel is lightweight, will not flex during peaks and looks great! Don’t be afraid to show off the back of your woofer.
Klippel optimized components using a state-of-the-art Klippel distortion analyzer, Polk engineers were able to optimize the woofer’s motor structure, voice coil alignment and suspension for the best possible performance, even at extreme listening levels.
Available matching grilles complement the wheel spoke design.
Single voice coil configuration (MM1540) also available.
All Polk products are made using the best materials and the most advanced manufacturing techniques. They pass the industry’s most exhaustive quality tests, including drop testing, extreme signal response and UV & salt exposure testing. Polk loudspeakers are built to perform for a lifetime.

Many. 1) lightweight for a 15" (its only 14-15lbs! i weighed it). 2) Efficient (doesn't need a kilowatt of power, 500 is plenty you can probably get away with 200watts fine). 3) low distortion, 4) plays accurate it actually plays the higher bass notes 80-120hz well unlike most 15s and goes down to as low as the limit of hearing.
Weaknesses:
I can't think of any. You can adjust your own sound as you like. Small sealed box with you want more upper end bass. larger with more polyfill if you want extended bass. Ported if you want want even more SPL and have the space for it.
Review:
WOW WOW WOW. This is an amazing speaker! It has all the qualities i look for a subwoofer for car. Efficient, low distortion, accurate, low bass and high bass as well, value. It just sounds correct. Don't let the size make you think it will sound slow. It is totally the opposite. I had the mm1040 prior to this and it actually sounds just as clear if not cleaner in the upper end of bass. I like to have extended bass so i put this in a a 2.2 cu ft sealed box (larger than 1.5 polk recommends) filled with 4lbs of polyfill. At this setup, I think i went too far on the polyfill, 2lbs would probably be perfect. I have the Alpine MRP500 powering this at 500 watts 2 ohms. My mains are the previous version of polk 6.5" component momos. I thinking of getting the new mm series. I heard a lot of good things about it.

Great sound quality and responsiveness. Very lightweight and efficient. Can handle fairly large amounts of power.
Weaknesses:
No weaknesses at all. Just be-careful where you buy these from. I purchased what said was the latest 850watt max 425rms set, I was shipped 2 different sets both being 750watts max 325rms. To most thats not a big deal, but those who compete in SPL like myself know that 100watts can make a huge difference competeing
Review:
I have 2 of these awesome subwoofers in my car. I can not believe the sound quality these slimmer light weight 15's produce. I have them in a 5 cube ported box competing in SPL events. I've won numerous awards and trophies with these speakers. They are amazing and can handle large amounts of power with no problem. Im currently feeding 600 watts rms to each one and they handle it with ease!!
