Monitor 60
Floorstanding loudspeaker
Incredible Sound/Affordable Price
The name "Monitor" is special to Polk Audio. The original Polk Audio Monitor Series, produced in the mid-1970s, ushered in the modern loudspeaker era by setting the standard for performance and value. The original Monitor Series is the line that made Polk Audio famous with its simple, sturdy construction, clear, accurate sound, powerful bass and superior imaging all at a price that made great sound available to everyone.
The newly reborn Monitor Series is classic Polk: a quality-built, affordable line of high performance loudspeakers for music and home theater. They are highly efficient, so they can be driven easily by unpretentious receivers, and they are voice matched for lifelike surround sound environments. The Monitor Series boasts a stylish look that complements today's flat screen technology, with wood grain finishes and mod Titanium faces, and beefy stabilizer feet on the tower models. Built for speed, sound quality and value, the Monitor Series is a great introduction to high performance sound.
The Monitor 60 features:
- High efficiency design allows the Monitor Series to reveal the classic Polk Audio sound (open, spacious and clear) even when driven by modestly-powered amplifiers and receivers.
- 1-inch (25mm) Fabric/Polymer Composite Dynamic Balance Dome Tweeter with powerful Neodymium magnet structure delivers clear and detailed high frequency response for realistic reproduction of vocals and instruments.
- Three 5 1/4-inch Bi-Laminate Composite Dynamic Balance Drivers are lightweight and stiff with good damping for high efficiency, excellent bass and lower distortion.
- Multiple small-diameter driver design delivers wide dispersion, better mid-range, and more detailed bass response for an open, box-less, three-dimensional sound.
- Non-resonant all-MDF enclosure construction with ¾"-thick baffles and front-to-back and side-to-side internal bracing ensures cleaner, clearer, more lifelike sound quality.
- Crossovers use Mylar bypass capacitors for more detailed high frequencies.
- Dual Five-Way Binding Post Connectors, allowing for more secure hook-up options, as well as bi-wiring and bi-amping flexibility.
- Monitor Series speakers are modern living accessories that make a stylish statement in either Black or Cherry wood grain finish, with Titanium faces.
- Magnetically shielded for safe placement on or near TVs and video monitors with no risk of video distortion.
- Bold, fat stabilizer feet that ensure stability on carpet or hard floors for more precise bass response and superior imaging.
- Slim tower design has a footprint of less than one square foot.
- Critically Tuned Flared Port minimizes port noise (chuffing) for good low frequency extension with low distortion, resulting in natural, full-bodied sound with rich bass.

Highs, Lows, Mids are Crisp, Accurate, very clean.
Weaknesses:
No weakness really, just if you want the best possible sound pair it with a Polk Audio Sub for best performance. I recommend Psw111 or higher.
Review:
Bought Them on July 4th, Since then they have Rocked my house. I have them paired with PSW125,CS1, and monitor 30's. Best combination Ever!

Crisp, great looks, best home theater speakers mney can buy!!
Weaknesses:
The only weakness would be a person choosing to run these speakers with a poor reciever.
Review:
I have been through two different pairs of polk speakers. Ive had the RTi line and the monitor line. To be honest with ya I cant tell a huge difference and im not too fond of the interesting design that the RTi has formed. The monitor should not be considered a intro line, i think it is a ploy to get peole that want top of the line to buy the Rti line which is about twice as much!! The monitor 60's are a three way speaker and have a huge difference from the monitor 50's. Very clear and very crisp, i like crisp. Im not in to arm sound and polk is the king of crisp. These speakers are the best looking speakers you can buy and the most important tip i can give is that you must match them with all the same line. Example. PSW 10, Monior 30,40,60 and CS1 center. These rarley go on sale so expect to pay the piper for them. People who are complaining about weak lows in the polks are probably more into music than movies. Then again if i was a big music fan i would buy a two channel reciever and big huge towers with extra amps. these polks can not be matched for crisp accyrate sound.

Review:
On a par with my vintage Monitor 10a's.....(hate to admit it). I am extremely pleased with this purchase. Well balanced, relatively flat, yet punchy enough for jazz. Listened to Beatle's "Something", switching back & forth between my fav's (Vintage Monitor 10a's). Bass sounder more forward & fuller on the 60's, presence was at least equal, if not more life-like. Next: Wes Montgomery's "Willow Weep For Me". Cymbals came alive on the 60's compared to my revered Peerless tweets on my 10a's (gasp!) Bass was again a little fuller. Next: Steely Dan's "Jack of Speed" from their grammy winner " Two Against Nature". Surprised how well the bass line performed: Tight, full, relatively deep & forward. The bottom end was not as smooth as my 10a's, but I actually enjoyed the addtional bassline punch. I personally don't feel a subwoofer is tequired for for musical purposes, but hey, even I like to be startled by a good bomb blast when watching movies.

Review:
After reading many reviews about the Monitor 60 I decided to purchase a pair for my second Home Theater System. Man do these things rock! I have them paired with CS1, Monitor 30,PSW125 this is an awesome combination. Listening to jazz and watching movies will never be the same again. Thanks, Polk Audio.

If you're looking for speakers to move the walls and not listen to music the way it's intended, these aren't for you.

I bought these (T600) from Polk's ebay website for $265.00! Absolutely amazing speakers especially at this price point. I looked at Jamo, Klipsch, Tannoy, etc. before looking these, no comparison.

Good mid to high range
Weaknesses:
Turned off my SVS sub and listened to music. Just not there in the low end. Good for movies not music. I bought them for Home Theater though so they are working out nice in that apect.
Review:
Need a sub to enjoy these speakers. Great for movies not for music so much
by Alan Phillips, May 1, 2005
0 out of 0 people found this review helpful.Strengths:
Power and oomph when needed but the slight touch is there when needing mid-range. Lead guitars and percussion are a real treat with these speakers. Symphony work is definitely not lost - we are talking all round ability. Vocals are strong and rich. I would love to have tried the 70s but my back was getting sore...
Weaknesses:
Perhaps another tweeter could have been added but hey, perfection is a rare thing...
Review:
I have reviewed many record and CD albumns for magazines using my Goodman speakers and a Sugden class A amplifier. However it was time for a change my wife told me... So one Denon DCD-485 CD player and one Denon PMA 1055R integrated amplifier with Monitor 60 speakers later... I tested the Polks against KEF, Tannoy and Denon and I was duly impressed. The sales person was not as I had taken just over 3 hrs to do this... Hey to me that was important - I had to get the right sound otherwise it was just not going to be worth it. Bass with the 60s was fairly heavy but then again with all that drive what would you expect? The 50s had a great sound but the latest Tannoy Fusion 4s sounded more refined. The 50s had an in your face sound that appealed to me. So I tried big brother... The result was - I bought them. Simple as that.

Midrange-vocals, guitar and violins.Best I've heard.Tweeters-fantastic superb.Handles all Home Theater movies.
Weaknesses:
NONE! Even had a smooth deep bass with tone control and extension added.Though not designed for 20hz -3db earth shaking sub levals
Review:
Owning a pair of LS-90's, I couldn't pass up these speakers at there sale price of $400 a pair! Price not being an issue, I am blown away. The midrange, vocals seem to transform into this 3 dimensional, spacial imaging, unsurpassed even by the LS-90's.The tweeters also bring out a new leavl of high end. Cymbals triangles sound effects like glass are simply brilliant, clean clear distinctive.

The Mids are amazing! No speaker at this cost should sound so clear and fresh.
Weaknesses:
I would like a little more in the lower end.
Review:
I gave these speakers five stars. This doesn't mean these are perfect speakers by any means, but they are about as good as you could possibly get for the price. My old roommate had a set of Bose and I compared these very closely with similarly priced JBL's, and the others weren't even in the same category with the M60's. The lows are a little sloppy compared to the mediums, but this can be fixed with a sub. I have them set in an open but small room. This is perfect, but I'm not sure how they would work in a larger area. In sum, great sounding, crisp, and clear speakers for and even better price!

Solid mids and highs, excellent cosmetically. Clearity is awsome, good weight.
Weaknesses:
I see everyone is saying that the speaker lacks bass, but if you are running a home theater, then you should already have a sub. If not, buy a POLK sub, excellent quality. I have two...
Review:
I have just recently bought a CSi3 to replace my older center, what a differnce, so sad that i had been without this center all this time. So now i was stuck with my older SoundStage fronts and rears, which sound good, but the purchase of the POLK center got me looking for a new set for the front, to match the center. Did alot of research before going to look and POLK just seemed to always stand out. So went down to my local Visions store to get a pair and ended up buying four Monitor 60's. These speakers are absolutely superb. I am a DVD movie nut and this makes my viewing beyond words. Thank you POLK for your product, now i need to go out and get another sub, this makes three. Maybe i'll sell one,ha,ha. I wonder if you can have three subs on one system?

Review:
I am still wondering how I ended up with speakers this good for a mere $349 for the pair. When I first turned my stereo on after installing these gems, I was stunned by the clarity, fullness, and insane efficiency of the speakers. I had listened to Klipsch and Infinity speakers at twice the price that didn't sound anywhere near as crisp and clean as the Polk M60s...

Strong powerful speaker.
Weaknesses:
Dome tweeter is still weak. I like my highs crisp and sharp.
Review:
This speaker sounds great. But it lacks the high. I prefered horn tweeters instead of dome tweeters. I think it deserves a 4 out of 5 star. The speaker does the job.

Look sober, not cheap or too elegance, and the price is affordable, great performance
Weaknesses:
The cover grill is very fragile, so be gentle with these parts.
Review:
I bought my monitor 60 a year ago and I use them with a marantz 7500, se sound is amazing, before I bougth them I compare them with the monitor 50, the difference is bigger than I thought, and I can affort to bought them, it was a reasonable price by the perfomance I got, the sound are clear enough for a begginer in home theater, but I can´t complaint, my wife and daugthers are impress, too. Because the quality of sound even in dolby 2.0 is amazing. I can enough bass from them, but this pair aren´t build for that purpose, for that reason I recommend use a power bass, personaly I use a Velodyne 12" and the mix is incredible. Thanks to you I enjoy every movie I have.

IVE OWNED THESE POLK AUDIO MONITOR 60 SPEAKERS FOR A LITTLE LESS THAN ONE YEAR AND I JUST CANT BELIEVE HOW MUCH I ENJOY THEM. I HAVE THE TWO TOWERS MATED UP WITH A POLK AUDIO PSW10 POWERED SUBWOOFER. PUSHING THESE BEAUTIES IS A SONY 6.1 SURROUND SOUND RECIEVER AND SONY 400 DISC CD/DVD PLAYER. WHEN THIS SYSTEM IS POWERED UP IT BECOMES AN EVENT. I CANNOT THINK OF A BETTER SYSTEM ON THE MARKET FOR THE MONEY SPENT.

Good overall response after bi-amping. tremendous increase in clarity and tone. Nice high notes and an involving experience.

Review:
This was the very first time that i had purchased a component based home theatre system. My kit comprised of the mighty PSW12 and Monitor 50's apart from centre and surrounds from Mordaunt-Short. I am using a Marantz SR4500 amplifier. Though i purchased this kit for my Hall which is big at 20X14 i had to settle for this kit due to budget constraints. But i wasnt the least bit off with the awesome n tremendous performance of these speakers both for movies n music. Two months later i auditioned the Monitor 60's and KNEW that i had to have them because they were awesome. With a lovely depth in voice and beautiful high notes it sure did flatter me. I exchanged my 50s for these immediately and was on cloud9! I actually used my speaker b option in my ampilier to bi-amp the speakers and really did wonders to the response on a whole.

Brilliant smooth sound. For the price I could not find any speakers that sounded or looked better.
Weaknesses:
If running these speakers with a good sub (I am using the PSW10) I have not found any weaknesses.
Review:
Very impressive. This was my last piece to complete my entertainment system. I replaced a pair of Sony towers which I thought sounded very good, I had no clue what I was really missing until I installed these. I actually wired them as a single connection for the first week via a HK AVR335 and then I rewired them using all 4 terminals (bi-wire). After hooking them up using the bi-wire connection - WOW! the mids are much smoother, the highs are extremely crisp without hurting your ears and the mid-bass is much more defined. These speakers do not have the low end bass but pairing them with a sub makes for a perfect package. I actually compaired these speakers to the Monitor 50's, 70's and thought these were the most complete package of the three. I would love to hear all three speakers side by side utilizing the bi-wire configuration but I suspect the 60's will still sound as good if not better then the 50's and 70's.

bright, open and crisp sound, decent build quality, looks great. great value.
Weaknesses:
not enough bass, a probem for some movies. grill is a an accident waiting to happen.
Review:
you can't buy a more audiophile proof set, for the money that is. excellent frequency resolution in high and mid ranges. Bass is a different thing, there is not enough oomph, even when with classic you feel a void. if the designated room is a largish, you'd be better off with a sub. I have teamed these babies with monitor 30, cs1 center and a psw 10 sub. I use a Marantz sr-4600 to push it all. the result is really impressive. great for movies, very warm sound for music (and I mean ALL MUSIC, those speakers handled everything I threw at them great, I am a Jazz and Prog rock person and the wife listens to rn'b ). Over all for the price, I can't think of a better deal. I have a baby coming up, so the wife made damn sure I do not go over board with the budget. I could not believe the sound I got for the money spent.

Review:
Listen to these side by side before you spend buy any speakers under $2000.00, that was the cheapest pair of floor standing speakers I could find with this quality of sound. I found a lot of great sounding speakers for a good price until I put them side by side with the model 60's. Sorry Polk, but they sounded better than your other more expensive series speakers to me and I was a professional Audio Engineer for 12 years, studio & concert sound.

I reallu have not found any. Bass addicts might want to add a subwoofer.
Review:
I suspected these speakers would be good based on the performance of my Polk bookshelf speakers. I looked at several other brands of speakers at the store but when the salesman turned these on I knew I had found my speakers. The mids and highs are superb. I have these paired with a 10" sub and the combination is fantastic. I am hearing details in the music that were lost before. These things are super efficient and can throw quite a party, or pull out subtle nuances at lower volumes. Best set of speakers I have ever owned.

Review:
Just got these yesterday and hooked them up bi-wired they sound good but only at high Vol. they sound washed out if playing at low vol. Speaker grill is a little flimsy,I can see these getting broke real easy, but for the price good buy.I also am glad I have a sub-woofer because if you like a nice base sound you really need one.

Beautiful design, great clarity and seperation. Easy to drive at moderate amplifier power.
Weaknesses:
Nada. None. Zip.
Review:
I replaced Monitor 40s with these on the front and moved the 40s to the rear. The 40s are good little speakers, but the 60s are really on a higher plane altogether. Bi-amp these to get the full effect. Extremely clear seperation of instruments and the vocals pop right out. Unbelievable for speakers in this price range. For those reviewers who list lack of bass as a weakness, wise up - you don't get heavy bass from 5.25" drivers, people, and you should know that. If you want speakers with good bass buy speakers with 10" woofers. These speakers do what they are designed to do and they do it very, very well at a relatively low cost.

I just got my pair of 60's today....had to hook them up to a 15 year old sony 120 watt while i await my new harman/kardon reciever. I am not getting the lack of bass thing I keep reading about. I am around the corner from them and I can feel the bass. These speakers are crystal clear at low volume. I am going to run at this level till I break them in, but even at a 3 setting, I am hearing music I never heard before from a CD I have owned since 1995.

Cheesy plastic-looking feet. how about METAL-looking feet Cheap cloth cover – my one-year-old baby girl cracked the plastic backing from day one…
Review:
This speaker has been discontinued… and resold in another model number. I am writing this for the benefit of the Polk designers and internet savvy audio junkies. These speakers are a pleasant surprise. I brought them from the internet because they were on sale without listening to them; at the same time I got the Onkyo TH-SR806S 130 watt per channel. I thought in worst-case scenario, I was going to use them for rear speakers for 7.1 (sorry Polk). I was waiting for the Bose to go on sale. These speakers were okay… but when I hooked them up with bi-amp, my Onkyo has a bi-amp speaker feature, they sounded really good! These speakers have very good bass, in bi-amp mode; not as good as a subwoofer… I almost forgot that I didn’t have a sub or surround. The bottom line is you need a good amp to push BIG speakers! I cannot ask for more for the price I paid.

WoW Excellent speakers at an excellent price. Truly a giant leap forward from any speaker I have ever owned. I will never buy a mediocre speaker again, it will be Polk Audio speakers from now until death. I teamed up with a PSW10 sub, and this is a must, even for the folks who don't enjoy bass. Now, I must buy more, replacing every speaker with a Polk Audio speaker in every nook and cranny of my home and vehicles. Thanks Polk for your near perfection combined with affordability !

The sound quality is great from these speakers. The cherry finish looks nice ,not cheap like some others do.The mids and highs blend together great. The bass is not bad for a 5.25" speaker.Takes a little while to break in and the bass get better over time. But if you want that really low bass ,then you will want to add a sub.

I purchased a pair of these to replace some Cerwin Vegas I've had for years. I did some research on Polk brand and read a lot of blogs. They did not disappoint! These speakers sound really clean. The highs, mids and lows. I have a sub paired with them, but when listening to music I don't really need it. Either way, I am a Polk person now!

"In the world of affordable to moderately-priced speaker systems, there are dozens of major players, yet few have a more recognizable name and longstanding reputation for quality sound than does Polk Audio.
My best advice is to stick with the best-known brands and there are few if any that are more known than Polk Audio. They have been doing this for a long time and this audition showed me why. Their longevity is undoubtedly due to customer loyalty developed over many years of quality products and value. The speakers in this package are solidly constructed, have a good look and perform above their price class. Their sound is one that I would characterize as clear and quite precise..."
"I highly recommend this speaker package to anyone who is looking for quality sound in this price range. It a set-up that will instantly transform your living room into a big time theater for a relatively small amount of money."
