Incredible Sound. Affordable Price.
This high efficiency, multiple-driver design allows the Monitor 70II floorstanding loudspeaker to better reveal the classic Polk sound (open, spacious and clear), even when driven by modestly-powered amplifiers and receivers. This is a hallmark of the classic Monitor Series speakers. Cascade Tapered Array technology delivers big bang for the buck, with maximum bass, detailed imaging and clear midrange.
Monitor70II Features:
1-inch (25mm) fabric/polymer composite Dynamic Balance® dome tweeter with powerful Neodymium magnet structure delivers clear and detailed high frequency response for realistic reproduction of vocals and instruments.
6 1/2-inch bi-laminate composite Dynamic Balance drivers are lightweight and stiff with good damping for high efficiency, excellent bass and lower distortion.
Multiple small-diameter driver design delivers wide dispersion, better mid-range, and more detailed bass response for an open, "box-less" three-dimensional sound.
Cascade Tapered Array (2-1/2-way) design. Both drivers play bass frequencies but only one driver (the upper one) plays upper-midrange frequencies. This method provides maximum bass output along with precise imaging and detailed midrange response.
Non-resonant all-MDF enclosure construction with 3/4-inch thick baffles and front to-back and side-to-side internal bracing ensures cleaner, clearer, more lifelike sound quality.
Crossovers use Mylar bypass capacitors for more detailed high frequencies.
Dual 5-way binding post connectors, allowing for more secure hook-up options, as well as bi-wiring and bi-amping flexibility.
Monitor Series speakers are "modern living accessories" that make a stylish statement in either black or cherry wood grain finish, with titanium faces.
Bold, fat stabilizer feet that ensure stability on carpet or hard floors for more precise bass response and superior imaging.
Slim tower design has a footprint of less than one square foot.
Critically tuned flared port minimizes port noise ("chuffing") for good low frequency extension with low distortion, resulting in natural, full-bodied sound with rich bass.
All Polk products are made using the best materials and the most advanced manufacturing techniques. They pass the industry’s most exhaustive quality tests, including drop testing, extreme signal response and UV & salt exposure testing. Polk loudspeakers are built to perform for a lifetime.

Voices sound like they are right in the room with you. Clear clean sound, even at high volume levels. It,s like hearing sounds that where not there before.
Weaknesses:
None! Would buy Polk again. I have listened to more expensive speakers that did not sound any better. Like Dalquist and Martin Logan.
Review:
I got hooked on audiofile systems over 30 years ago. My first true system was an Adcom gfa2 amp with the matching gpa1 preamp with Techincs SB7070 speakers. I am still using this same amp preamp setup, but my Techincs have been long dead. But my brother bought a set of polk bookshelf speakers and when i listened to them i desided to try a set of Monitor 70's. I have had them now for 6 months and i am very happy with the sound. With all types of music the sound quality equals or surpasses my old speakers! I would recomend these to anyone who loves clear clean sound. Great job polk Audio!

These speakers handle lots of power. The tuned cabinet and multiple drivers extend the bass, while the dome tweeters produce the highs with clarity.
Weaknesses:
None.
Review:
These are great speakers. I have had these Monitor 70 II's, for three years and they are the best. I wanted to keep to time honored 6.5" drivers like the awesome SDA SRS speakers, and previous Monitor series. The Monitor 70 II will play loud but can also play soft without loss of detail. If you listen to R&B, Jazz, Pop, Classical or Rock this speaker system gives your music life. I have a set of Polk Monitor 5jr's for 22years, Polks are built good and made to last. Currently connected to a McIntosh C712 pre-amp and McIntosh MC 7200 amp, and a Cambridge Audio azur 650c CD player, and this system rocks. Speakers are the most important purchase of any audio system, they are creating the sound you will be listening too. If you want a smile everytime you listen to a record or cd, get the Monitor 70 II's.
