MORE BASS. LESS SPACE.
NOT JUST ANOTHER SUBWOOFER.
At last count, there were over 140 powered subwoofers on the market but only two, the ne Polk PSW100 and PSW200, deliver "bone shaking" performance with unmatched convenience and flexibility.
The technology we've incorporated into our subwoofer minimizes the unwanted midrange that is common to most subwoofers. This midrange muddies the sound and restricts your placement flexibility since your ears can locate the position of midrange sound sources. Our subwoofers produce only bass, not midrange, so they can be placed anywhere in your room, even out of sight, while the sound appears to come from all around you. Because there's no midrange to color the sound, they will blend seamlessly with your other speakers. And with output down to 19 cycles, they positively enhance the performance of your main speaker system, regardless of its size or price.
Since there are no exposed drivers or cloth grilles, these subwoofers resist abuse from children and pets so they'll continue to look good and perform well for many years. Last but not least, they'll give you the BIG subwoofer bass without the air conditioner sized cabinet.
WHAT IS HIGH VELOCITY COMPRESSION DRIVE?
If small subwoofers with big bass were easy to design and build, every manufacturer would make them. But all conventional solutions result in either sacrificing the performance to the size or sacrificing the size to the performance. Something unconventional was needed. Introducing Polk Audio's new technology, High Velocity Compression Drive.
This patent pending acoustic system encloses a special mass Dynamic Balance driver in a unique two chambered cabinet which transmits sound into the room through a patented opening we call a Powerport.
A high mass driver is required to overcome the stiff internal pressure of these compact enclosures. So we developed drivers with very heavy cone assemblies and powerful magnet structures to control them. The result is spectacularly deep bass output from a cabinet that is nearly thirty percent smaller than that of a conventional subwoofer.
POWERPORT.
Inside a subwoofer cabinet, the sound pressure levels get pretty extreme. This pressure must pass into your room through an opening in the cabinet - typically a port. But ports, particularly small ones, add noise due to the turbulence that is created as the air passes through them. By modeling the flow dynamics of a port, we were able to create a new venting system, the Powerport. It eliminates the distortion and turbulence of a typical port by smoothly transitioning the high pressure, high velocity air inside the port to a low velocity, high volume flow entering your room. A Conventional port designed to match the performance of the PSW200's Powerport would have to be 12 inches in diameter and 60 inches long!
So you get deeper, more powerful bass than any other subwoofer its size. In fact, you get the performance you'd expect from a big subwoofer in a size that's small enough to be hidden anywhere.
HIGH PERFORMANCE INBOARD AMPLIFICATION.
The amplifier design for a powered subwoofer has to be rugged so you can play the subwoofer at high levels without having it distort the sound. Both the PSW100 and PSW200 are powered by custom designed high performance amplifiers featuring discrete output circuits for superior musicality and maximum deep bass power.
And you can tailor the sound of our subwoofers. Independent volume and phase controls enable you to change the bass to suit your taste, while the frequency and phase controls allow you to match the subwoofer to your main speakers, whether they're satellite, bookshelf or floor-standing. To eliminate the guesswork of tuning your system, adjacent to each control are recommended settings so you can easily adjust the subwoofer for optimum performance.
So for big subwoofer bass in a size you can live with, consider the revolutionary Polk powered subwoofers with High Velocity Compression Drive. Our innovative technologies and value engineering have made them the ideal choice for music and movies and has, once again, enabled us to deliver "Incredible Sound/Affordable Price."

Review:
This is an update to the review i submitted below, last year.I just got my hands on another PSW-200 in a Plexiglas enclosure.I have been waiting 20 years at LEAST to try out stereo sub woofers. This ain't no point one, point two or point ANYTHING.This is a strictly stereo set up.I have the Preamp outputs from my Carver CM-1090 integrated amplifier running via 3 meter lengths of Kimber Hero interconnects to the input of each sub(the left/mono channel on each one)The output from the sub is running back to the main amp inputs on the Carver(left channel to and from left sub.Right channel to and from right sub.All via the Kimber Hero)That way the Polk RT-35i's are high pass filtered. All the bass below about 80HZ is sent to the subs and everything above that frequency is sent to the Carver to power the RT-35i's.Is there a difference between using one PSW-200 and using two you ask?OH-MY-GAWD-BECKY!YES there is more bass.DUH!The catch is there is ALSO more midrange-soundstage that is.It takes CAREFUL placement to get the bass right. At first the bass was WORSE.There was less of it AND it sounded weird.Almost out of phase even.I knew that in order to get it right, the subs HAD to be asymmetrically placed. This way it would help to break up the standing waves in the room.TRUST ME,THIS IS NOT AN EXACT SCIENCE.Unless you are using one of those computer programs to map out the standing waves in your room. You are left to use your EARS(oh no,not THOSE!)After a little experimentation with the placement. As well as some tweaking of the phase, crossover and volume controls. It locked in BIG time.It was a LOT easier for me as i have been doing this for many years. This sort of thing IS NOT for the faint hearted/impatient/inexperienced/all of the above.Once you start down the tweaking path-FOREVER will it dominate your destiny(and TIME for THAT matter)Not ONLY did i get more bass.I also got a HUGE sound stage,ESPECIALLY with the Sonic Holography engaged. This was a bit of a surprise, hearing more stereo separation.I guess it has to do with the fact that the bass is no longer being summed to mono by one sub.Since the Sonic Hologram Generator does it's Inter Aural Crosstalk Distortion Cancellation full frequency range(unlike later generation Polk SDA's which only do it from 200 HZ to 1000 HZ-i own a pair of SDA-1C's and they sound VERY different from Carver's Sonic Holography.Which is better? That is a matter of taste and also Dependant upon your choice of program material)ANYWAY my bass is no longer as boomy. It's also DEEPER,more controlled and i get MUCH more channel separation.Which makes for a MUCH larger sound stage now.I wish i could have done this YEARS ago!!! For it's size, this subwoofer KICKS!!!!! I got it used off of ebay in the plexiglass enclosure and was SHOCKED.It shakes the entire building. No kidding. Not only is the bass high in QUANTITY.It is ALSO high in QUALITY.It is tight, taught and tunefull.I can hear the difference between an organ pedal note and a bass guitar.WONDERFULL!!!!

Sound and power. Unreal performance and consistant power.
Weaknesses:
none that i can find so fare. sometimes a bit over barring.
Review:
The most unbeleivable sound you can ask for. All though the one i bought is not in the black wood case, but rather in 1/2 inch plexi-glass casing. This was a demo modle that i bought from the Goodguys back in the late 90's when the modle was first introduced. I have sense upgraded all my other components but not my sub-woofer. I have bought other untis and tried them out but not one of them even comes close.
