Big Speaker Sound... Without the Big Speaker
Living Together: The RM6005 System & Karen's Tiny Apartment
My friend Karen is a movie freak. She loves movies. She also lives in a tiny apartment over near the college. Even though it's an older building, you'd be surprised at how thin the walls are. Everyone lives right on top of everyone else. Neighbors have a piano, if you can believe it, and the front office knows Karen's voice now because she's complained about it so much. That said, Karen wanted more than just TV sound with the DVDs she was getting into. She wanted a home theater. Like mine, actually. But... She didn't have the room or the budget to spend a bunch on something that would be too overwhelming for her little apartment space. Solution: the RM6005 System and a set of stands.
And I had a great idea. We could document Karen's installation of the RM6005 System in her tiny apartment to demonstrate how convenient it was for small rooms and apartments!
Karen liked the RM6005 because it's Polk's smallest RM System, a truly "Ultra Compact" home theater loudspeaker system: 5 solidly built injection-molded, coffee-cup-sized speakers ready to be matched with your choice of Polk Audio powered subwoofer. That's the beauty of it. You can match them with the sub that delivers the amount of bass that's perfect for your application. In Karen's case, she chose the compact PSW202, the perfect amount of bass to deliver a small impact for movies and music, and a big impact when her neighbors are playing the piano at night.
It took Karen about an hour and half to connect all her new electronics and position up the little RM speakers to the left and right of her television and, for the surrounds, next to her couch. Finally, Karen was ready to watch some DVDs with her new, apartment sized home theater.
"This is the perfect surround sound system for my little apartment," Karen says. "I'm blown away by movies on my tee-vee. It was easy to set up and I've got surprisingly huge theater sound. My brothers and I love to use it with my Playstation!"
RM6005 Features:
- Satellites available in either black or titanium finish.
- Tiny (only 5.4" x 3.5" / 13.8cm x 8.9cm), timbre-matched, magnetically shielded satellites. RM6005 Satellites are not available separately.
- Powered Subwoofer included in system.
- All Satellites (including Center Channel) feature integrated keyhole slots and threaded inserts for easy wall mounting.
- Sculpted Satellite enclosures made of low-resonance, injection-molded polymer.
- Mylar bypass capacitor in the crossover (a feature normally found only in expensive, high-end models) improves high frequency response for crystal clarity.
- All speakers in the system (including the subwoofer) are magnetically shielded for maximum placement flexibility near TVs and video monitors.
- Separately packaged subwoofer allows you the ability to choose the Polk subwoofer model that is right for you.* The recommended standard subwoofer model is the PSW202. Other recommended matching subwoofers: PSW250 and PSW303.
The PSW202 subwoofer features:
- Beefy 10-inch forward-firing driver that features a vented pole piece for superior power handling and reliability.
- High current 50-watt Continuous amplifier fills large rooms with solid bass.
- The bass port is flared on both ends to minimize port turbulence and noise for low distortion and powerful bass response.
- Adjustable crossover and volume level controls along with a phase switch, allow you to match the subwoofer for any system and room.

Big crisp clear sound at any Volume. Small size fits well into my room.
Weaknesses:
Uncontrolable desire to pump up the volume (which they handle quite well).
Review:
Bought the system without the sub to use with an existing subwolfer in a small room. They really sound great in 5.1 or for music.

well blended sound field makes the listening stage seamless.
Weaknesses:
sometimes the bass can be overpowering, but then there are numerious adjustments to compensate for this. can't say it is a weakness, only a pleasent problem people in other parts of the house have to deal with.
Review:
having used the speakers that came with my present home theater system i knew the weak point was the speakers. i sampled various speakers at my local hi-fi dealer and was immediately impressed with the polk RM6005's. like most people who love good sound reproduction i have heard of polk forever. now i am pleased to count myself amoung the multitude of happy owners. i only wish i had been able to afford quality like this before. oh what i have missed.

I find no weaknesses.
Review:
I recently purcahsed the RM6005 system powered by Harmon Kardon. I have looked at many types of speaker options. There is no comparison. The fidelity is far superior to anything on the market in the same class. What really impressed me was the high quality at a very reasonable cost. I highly recommend Polk audio.

Review:
I recently purchased my first home theater package when I was introduced to the RM6005's already setup to a high-end receiver with all the good wiring, etc. After hearing "Attack of the Clones", the entire shop was floored and I bought these speakers outright. Unbelievable sound from palm-sized speakers such as these. They are very comparable to Sony & Bose speakers, if not better, in the same category.

WOW!!! WOW!!! I have been shopping around for a home theater system for several months now and finally decided to go for it, I purchased this system after finding it on display and WOW! What a great sound!! Small system with the Whopping BIG sound.

- Consistant, clear fidelity. - Good Quality Craftmanship - Soundstage imaging is A1
Weaknesses:
- Product Manual should have included a lot of the essential information contained on Polk's website for general advanced speaker placement, sub and receiver tuning. This would benefit those who do not have Internet access while setting their system up after Polk Support hours.
Review:
All I can say is the sound of the RM6005 is amazing, and with it's features like being able to mount them on a wall with a #10 screw instead of buying speaker mounts, makes this a truly a great purchase for the price point. I have paired my RM6005 with my Quest QS8 100W 8" sub, left over from my old setup, and my Panasonic SA-HE70 Receiver...man...it sounds sweet. I found Polk's Support site to have all the information / advice needed to properly setup my speakers, sub and receiver. I also called Polk's Toll Free Support number to confirm my design with their support team and found their service and expertise to be nothing short of top notch. As you can see, I am an extremely satisfied first time Polk buyer / user and I see no reason to change. This has been a very positive, affordable, enjoyable experience. Thanks Polk !

Sounds best at low to moderate volume and is great for watching movies.
Weaknesses:
While it sounds good at louder volumes, it just doesn't move enough air to pound the chest. I guess that's for the best, the neighbors would hate me if this system shook the walls.
Review:
Overall, good clean sound with pleanty of bass for an affordable price if you are looking for entry level surround sound.

a) Great bass b) Not TOOO directional on the satellites. Allows me to move around without having the sound change too much.
Weaknesses:
a) Bass outpowers the satellites, but my room size has a lot to do with that! Even so, I can't say any of that is a weakness. I may eventually turn this into my computer surround sound and upgrade my theater to their highest model.
Review:
Heard these on display at the store and just thought they rocked. I've never owned a surround sound system before, and my living room is 20' by 18' with 10' ceilings.....this system fills up the HOUSE. (2100 sqft). If you nail the bass just right and shove it in a corner with the phase right, you can get that heart thumping bass going. Very impressive, and very pleased.

I bought my RM600 here in Brazil, but I've never heard about polkaudio, and I'm enjoying it too much. It has a great sound and low cost.

Great system. I compared it to a few packages like it such as the jbl and the polk was highly impressive. I would recommend this to other people looking for the best bang for there buck.

Quality, sound quality, price, price, price!!! Did I mention price?
Weaknesses:
Efficiency, but then most, if not all, satelite systems aren't very efficient.
Review:
I replaced full size speakers with these. These have much better channel separation, especially for movies. Music is clean. Couldn't pass up the price. Very comparable to Bose Am Series without the big price tag.

Nice crisp, clear sound range. Boom'n base. Easy to set up.
Weaknesses:
Push type connectors hard to use with 14GA wire, limited manual.
Review:
I just purchased the RM 6005 plus a PSW303 sub. It sounds amazing! Good for 5.1 movie sound and fantastic for music. The RM6005's on their own sound extremely clear but add the PSW303 base and the walls will rumble. Very well balanced sound for such tiny speakers.

Small size, excellent sound, good highs and lows.
Weaknesses:
Center Channel not strong enough. Cannot get single speakers anymore to build 6.1 system
Review:
Finally made the investment in a home theatre system. After extensive research and much confusion I decided on Polk Audio. I have a small room and the speakers were just the right size. They sound great for the price! I would recommend them to anyone.

Sub woofer is good...That's it, Center Speaker so far is ok, its kinda weak in sound.
Weaknesses:
The 4 satellite speakers SUCK! All four of the now sound like "Rice Crispies" (Snap,Crackel, and POP) They cant handle my 80w/ch Yamaha Amp.
Review:
I wouldn't buy this speakers. In fact I don't think I will ever buy Polk Audio again. I am not impressed with the pathetic satellite speakers. The first day I got them they crackled. Return them, got another pair, they last another month then they started to crackle too. I have now removed all 4 satellite speakers from my system and reused my old Klipsch speakers bookshelf speakers. Unless something amazing happens, I will never buy POLK AUDIO again.

Great sound, nice small size!
Weaknesses:
I can't listen to them all day because I have to work!
Review:
I first purchased a $500.00 set of Polk Audio speakers and they sounded GREAT, but after a little buyers remorse I returned them. After looking around for a week or so for a good replacement speaker I found this set on clearance for $129.99 and they actually sound just as good as the original set....needless to say I am EXTREMELY happy with my purchase!

Excellent for DVD movies AND audio CD listening, thanks to the sub (PSW10). This kit has a really great value/price ratio. Incredible blend of sub with mains and sats, "they're matched!".
Weaknesses:
With some reserve, I think that small speakers are little too "pinpoitable" as to where they sit. ( room acoustics? speaker dispersion?).
Review:
I made my buy decision quickly after listening Polk's, against same price range competitive model's. I quickly recognised that Polk's sound. The sound is precise ( especially listening to jazz's genre ). Listen to "The legend of jazz" on PBS digital, the sound is absolutely incredible, breath taking. Cinema is crisp and clear, very good dymamic range. They work perfectly with my Pioneer VSX-515 amp. An important point to mention... I was impressed by the prompt answer I got back from Polk's, about a question I had on the sub connection (not a problem with the sub, a question about it! wow!). Definitively I will buy Polk's again.
