SR124DVC
Polk's best 12-inch Dual Voice Coil Component Subwoofer
Mobile Audio for Serious Listeners
Subwoofers for Serious Listeners
Polk Audio rocked the car stereo world in the spring of 2005 with the introduction of the SR6500 Signature Reference component/coaxial system hailed by Car Audio & Electronics magazine as "...the best performance, the best cosmetics the best engineered" component system. The same attention to detail and performance we brought to the SR6500 system we now offer in the all-new Signature Reference SR124 and SR104 Subwoofers. Both models are designed to provide competition-grade bass performance when installed in small sealed enclosures (.88 cubic ft net volume for the SR104 and 1.2 cubic ft net volume for the SR124).
SR Signature Features:
- Massive die-cast aluminum basket to house the 16 pound motor structure.
- Dual 4 Ohm Voice Coil (DVC) gives you maximum wiring and Impedance options (Single Voice Coil (SVC) model also available).
- A 2.5 inch glass/epoxy voice coil former wound with four layers of heavy gauge high temperature Aluminum wire provides the highest power handling and reliability.
- Voice coil is bathed in cooling air via an extensive network of vents in the pole piece and basket.
- Specially designed curved vanes smooth the airflow to minimize air turbulence that could cause noise and chuffing
- Dual progressive roll spiders precisely control the cone's long excursion for the ultimate in tight detailed and musical bass.
- Polk's Klippel Distortion Analyzer, which uses laser technology to measure and optimize driver behavior under high output, helps maximize linearity, minimize distortion, flatten and extend frequency response.
- ABS Cone employs catenary geometry for greater distortion damping stiffness.
- NBR (Nitrile Butyl Rubber) Surround damps distortion inducing resonance as it stands up to harsh automotive environments.
- Hex-key terminals (use a 2.5mm Allen key) for clean, professional hookups can accommodate up to 8 gauge speaker wire.

Weaknesses:
come on its a Polk audio product, well come to think of it there is one minor down fault... WHERE IS MY POLK AUDIO STICKER???
Review:
so far I have had this sub for about 3 days now.. So ya I'm still in the break in process, currently running a mtx thunder elite 801d to my SR, if it sounds this good now while breaking it in, I'm afraid of what lies ahead... GREAT SUB!!! especially when running all Polk momo high's...
Polk Response:
Please send us your address and we will get you a sticker. Polkcs@polkaudio.com

They sound amazing and perform like $1000 subs!
Weaknesses:
Polk needs higher ouput amps, so that I dont have to go buy MTX Audio amps!
Review:
I've had my SR for about two months now...and I regret to tell you I blew it up! Not sure how, maybe I didn't give it along enough break in period...however...I love my SR! and Polk sent me out a BRAND NEW one at no charge! I've had a lot of different brands of subs Rockford Fosgate, Pionner, Kenwood...and the Polks are unbeatable!

Great mid to high level base very clear and doesnt drown out the interior music. Sounds amazing in smaller enclosures. Looks beautiful in person! Hits every note how its ment to be herd not all monotone like lower end subs. really makes you appreciate music! 3 YEAR WARRENTY!
Weaknesses:
Doesnt do well in vented boxes. The SR should have an easier terminal jumper system because the amp wire is hard to attach with the allen key and sometimes the connection is loose. PUT SOME STICKERS IN THE BOX I WANNA REP POLK!
Review:
I put alot of time into researching the SR and finaly purchased one a few months ago. I didnt want to write a review on it untill I had tested the sub completely. I have the SR on my kicker 750.1 at its recomended rms rating which handles very well at high listening levels. The SR dosent distort and hits every note clearly unlike other subs that tend to have a long excursion. I am also very pleased to say that Polk has been a great help via email and over the phone. and I would also like to thank Polk for sending me a new SR in 4 days because I blew the first one I had becuase it was installed into a vented enclosure. I now have the SR installed into a small 1.3 cubic foot sealed box into my Jetta and let me tell you the difference is whate made this review a 5 out of 5. You have to hear it to belive it! Make sure you buy directly from Polk or a valid retailer.
Polk Response:
The SR series does function well in a vented enclosure. However the woofer does require a fairly large box and a rather large port to be properly tuned. If you're not using the recommended slot vent at the appropriate dimensions to get the appropriate vent area and length, the sub will not perform well. Further, one disadvantage of vented boxes in general over a sealed is the box loses control of the woofer below the port tuning frequency. In this case, use a high pass/subsonic filter.

High Power Handling. Goes to town on the low notes... High Excursion... Super Clean Sound
Weaknesses:
Polk needs bigger amps!
Review:
This is by far the best sub polk has ever had. And I've used them all! I did a pair in a new Dodge 2006 Megacab PU on two polk 500 w mono amps and it did a 141.8 dB with USAC mics. Gorgeous woofer and works great.

Extreme detail and accurate reproduction of sound.
Weaknesses:
Umm.......NONE!
Review:
This is the most powerful and accurate subwoofer I have ever heard. I have listened to the best, including JL, and the rest sound like bass boomers instead of sound reproducers. The Polk can bang with the best of them. It can rattle my trunk if I want it to. The difference is that I can hear every bass note in perfect detail, whether it's a bass guitar, a synthesizer, or a bass voice in perfect detail. This subwoofer is so accurate and expressive that it literally sends chills though my spine. I am a classically trained pianist and I can tell you that it reproduces classical music like no other subwoofer in the world. And when you turn it to music like Madonna, Cher, and Ace Of Base, it is a power house of thump! It is the most accurate and powerful 12" sub I've ever heard. There is no other subwoofer to buy if you want bone-rattling sound and accurate reproduction of that sound. Totally amazing Polk! Rock on!!!

amazing power handling, very clean, very deep bass. sounds great sealed or ported. killer looks too, just begs to be inverted.
Weaknesses:
made a weird "rattle" noise which turned out to be the wires leading from the terminal to the voice coil bouncing against the cone and eachother. taped each pair of wires together with electrical tape and the rattling stopped.
Review:
i've had this sub for over a year now (well its in my wife's car) and it can take the abuse. in the first car i had it in a sealed box built to spec with 600 watts rms on it. sounded great. now its in a '95 Celica hatch back in a spec ported box with the same amp. to the guy who said these dont work well in ported boxes needs to hear this car. holly s@#! this thing pounds!!! but yet its still clean and tight. yes the box is really big at almost 3 qubic feet but everyone who has heard it does not believe its only one 12". Polk hit a grand slam with this sub, it can pound with the best of them like the Rockford T1's or the MTX 9500's, but has far better sound quality than those do. my only disapointment is that its in my wifes car because the box wouldn't fit in my vette lol.

Amazing sound, these subs have incredible bass! Amazing look at a great price!
Weaknesses:
Slight mechinal noise, nothing black tape could'nt fix!
Review:
I have 4 sr12 dvc's in a custom box in my eclipse! These are by far the best subs I have used and will not go to anything else! These subs are powered by a rockford power 1000 watt amp and I easily have the loudest sound system around! Recently purchased polks componet speakers and cant wait to have them installed! Also wannt to compliment the polk audio support! They are very helpful with any problems you may have.

Looks good.
Weaknesses:
Not suitable for reverse mount due to mechanical noise. Looooooonnnnng break in period. Need to go with another brand amp since Polk does not have one that is really suited for this sub.
Review:
My initial impressions of this sub are not good. Seems like they spent alot of time making it look good from the back which to me is a waste of time since the subs mechanical noise ruins the sound when reverse mounted. Mine are not broken in yet and probably will not be because I purchased these with reverse mount in mind. Since thats out they will get sold for something better.

Great output, very low distortion, very repsonsive, great looks, solid terminals. with all music played deep and was hard to place location
Weaknesses:
no polk amp that can power it.
Review:
i enjoy music more with this woofer, it plays as low as i would like and it snappy and responsive. from death metal to hip hop from jazz to celtic music this sub did not miss a step. very clean no distortion and can handle all the power i give it. im using an audison VRX15002 2000RMS at 1 ohm i have two woofers DVC. they seem to disapear very well. great product and surpasses all my expectations. for the price you can only spend double to start comparing and possibly still choose the polk!

NICE CLEAN, DEEP LOW BASS.
Weaknesses:
I REALLY CAN'T THINK OF ANY WEAKNESSES.
Review:
THIS SUB SOUNDS GREAT. IT HAS A NICE LOW DEEP TIGHT BASS. I BOUGHT ONE 12 BEFORE I HAD EVEN HEARD. I HEARD THE DB SERIES SUBS AND I FIGURED THE SR'S WOULD SOUND GREAT. I'M IMPRESSED WITH THE SOUND IT PUTS OUT. I HAVE IT HOOKED UP TO A ALPINE V12 600 WATT AMP AND IT SHAKES THE HELL OUT OF MY CIVIC. I HAVE MY AMP ONLY UP HALF WAY AND DEBATING IF I EVEN NEED TO TURN IT UP ANYMORE. I DEFINETLY RECOMMEND THIS SUB TO ANYONE.

Excellent performance - produces bass notes extremely clean and accurate. Plus it looks damn good doing it!
Weaknesses:
I currently can't afford the new PA1200.1 to power these things :( ...but the 2 C500.1's will do for now.
Review:
The SR124 subwoofer is simply amazing. I was blown away... literally. I keep this thing in my trunk and the front seat still vibrates - it doubles as a massage! The best part of this sub is the clean bass. I can honestly say this is the cleanest sub I've ever head play. Anything I say will be an understatement, you simply have to hear it to believe it. I've had two of these subs for almost a year and I couldn't be happier. I'll never let these things go - EVER!

Review:
This is a true top of the line reference subwoofer. I feel that The Signature Reference series of subwoofers are the best Polk Audio subs ever built, Polk subs continue to get even better. Two SR124-DVC's sound incredible in my small sealed enclosure, plays extremely well with many types of music. This is one of best subs I have ever heard, everything sounds like it should sound with accurate, powerful, and deep bass. I also like the chrome on the back of this sub; it would look very cool in an enclosure with a plexi glass window. This sub has every thing that I look for in a sub in terms of sound quality, technologies used, durability, and build quality, and appearance.

This sub has amazing sound, very clean and pounds hard. Have a single 12 in my 2001 Mustang running off a 1000 watt lightning audio amp and sounds awsome could not ask any more from a sub. But there was one thing i looked inside the box and there were no Polk stickers to be found! where are my Pold Audio stickers?

good bass reproduction for all sq. oriented and sometimes sql

I have a feeling that he always asks for more, more power, more bass and that cost me a capital amplifiers So that is his only minus point
Review:
I have the woofer nou a while and I must say he continues to amaze me what a strong tight bass reproduction He played on a sound stream lilw.800 and I always feel that my amp is too short in power with its 800 rms but he played so good has anyone tested him with a heavy amp because'm curious where it will stop this great amp

so far the voice coils have burnt out twice!!
Review:
First let me say that this review is about the SR124 Subwoofer and the PA 1200.1 Mono Amp - ive got 2 sets of SR6500 components driven by an ARC Audio SE4200 amp and they perform brilliantly!! I love them and wouldn't trade em for anything! So about the Sub - The SR 124DVC is a solid subwoofer as long as it works!! I bought my SR 124 and PA 1200.1 from an official dealer and had the install done by an authorized installer. The gain was set to around 2/5ths of max cus i didn't require heavy bass, but Ive had trouble from day one! Im not sure exactly where the problem lies, but initially the amp kept cutting out when i played my music at a high volume for more than half an hour or so...until it stopped working all together - I sent it into the dealer and he claimed to have given me a new piece, but it was scratched and had some minor stains on it...I didnt have much of an option, so I had it installed, turned on the system and within a second the Subwoofer voice coil was burnt out. The dealer took it back and changed the voice coil and sent it back. It worked for a month or so, but every time I opened my trunk I could smell an electric-burn smell - the same I got when the coil of the sub burnt out. I knew it was a matter of time before it blew again, so I kept the gain on the amp all the way down, but the sub blew soon enough. Right now Ive been stuck with listening to mids and highs...no lows, and its been really frustrating. Ive had my install checked by two official Polk installers, and everything seems perfect. Im getting the SR124 subwoofer replaced 'ONE LAST TIME' but im definitely replacing the PA1200.1 amp - It never performed very well - not even close to the ARC audio SE amp, so its not worth trying out multiple times. Im replacing it with an Audison LRx 1.1K Mono amp. Im going to give this sub one last try before I change over to something else. Ive been going through this for more than a year with very poor response time from the dealer. I wrote a complaint to Polk as well, but got no response. I want to end this review by saying that Polk 'DOES' make some fantastic products, but their amps are not upto the mark (ive used the carbon series MOMO amp and it had inferior SQ and audible distortion levels when compared to ARC), and the SR sub has been very problematic for me. I hope its just an anomaly, cus when the sub worked, she sounded really great! I am really hoping that the third time around things work out better after replacing the amp. I hope the people at Polk are listening and lend some support!!

Very good SQ sub I have not came across a better woofer with sound reproduction.
Weaknesses:
Voice coils are not very strong.
Review:
To start out this subwoofer is absolutely amazing in every way shape and form. There is no distortion at all even at high volumes. The people who say that polk has no amp to power this is wrong. The 1200.1 amp is more than enough to power this sub period. The one problem I have had with this woofer is the voice coils, my sub completely quit after two weeks of play, the gain was set to 40 percent. Other than that this sub completely blows everything else out of the water. I am working on getting two more of these subs, they will be wired down to 1 ohm so that i can get 600 watts to each woofer with the 1200.1 amp from polk. If you are looking for something that has SQ then look no further because this sub will satisfy your needs hands down.
