SurroundBar 500 CHT
49-inch single-speaker component home theater system.

The SurroundBar Smart Enough to be Called Component Home Theater.
Look at this SurroundBar, just look at it. It’s a mere 1 1/2-inches thin. And yet, it produces one of the most addicting audio experiences you are likely to experience in a single-speaker system. How can this be? To reach this level of high performance, Polk engineers made a tactical design decision to separate the SurroundBar 500 CHT’s crossover and proprietary digital audio technologies into a separate rack-mountable black box: the external SDA® control module. The compact SDA control module goes right where your audio equipment or cable box goes, connects in seconds with no setup at all, and ensures an audio experience just not possible from other soundbar designs. The impossibly thin SurroundBar 500 CHT delivers a surprisingly wide, deep, detailed and realistic front soundstage for any application, and effortlessly adds excitement to your TV viewing, movie watching, and gaming.
SurroundBar 500 CHT Features:
An incredible 12-driver array, including nine ultra-shallow ASP aluminum dome mid-woofers and three 3/4-inch high performance ring radiator tweeters, in a mere 1 1/2-inch of depth.
Polk's patented SDA surround technology delivers a rich, enveloping listening experience from a single source; no rear speakers or special room characteristics are required.
7CH, 5CH or LCR configurable all from a single switch.
Polk Digital Logic® technology, a proprietary DSP program, automatically calibrates and optimizes your SurroundBar for any room shape or system setup.
Installs anywhere easily, with the simple secure wall-mount bracket or shelf cradle.
Extruded aluminum enclosure is designed to eliminate performance-robbing cabinet resonances.
Anti-diffraction grille and bezel design create surprisingly open, spacious imaging.
Easy plug-and-play connections between the control module, your TV, and your source components, with no complex setup or calibration needed. It works right out of the box!
Control module has receiver inputs, channel mode switch and output to the SurroundBar.
All Polk products are made using the best materials and the most advanced manufacturing techniques. They pass the industry’s most exhaustive quality tests, including drop testing, extreme signal response and UV & salt exposure testing. Polk loudspeakers are built to perform for a lifetime.

Decent tonal range, louder than you imagine, and the surround sound imaging is works better than expected in smaller rooms.
It will not replace floor standing speakers in a larger room. However, if your receiver can handle additional channels (i.e. A+B), surprising it will augment them so you don't have to take it down when you upgrade. To use it in a large room you should pair it up with the recommended surrounds or risk having tonal mismatch.
I purchased this to replace an awesome set of Polk floor standing speakers I had for 12 years. For smaller rooms, paired with a good subwoofer, it really does the job. The wiring harness is perfect for mounting it on the wall, and it looks REALLY good under your flat panel. Worth the money if you need a sound bar because it may well be the best one out - it just KILLS the econobar we have in our bedroom made by one of the other "leading" brands.

I have this sound bar for about a year now. I could not be more pleased. This sound bar replaced two Klipsch Heresy speakers up, a Klipsch center channel speaker and two Panasonic speakers for the rear. All speakers were over twenty years old. I have a small room that I have my equipment in. The sound bar fills the room with good quality clear sound. The 500 CHT is connected to a new Yamaha RX-V673. By the way I am running two sub woofers. One is a Yamaha and the other is a Polk Audio.

"Since [the original SurroundBar, 2005], Polk has continued to be a leader in offering high quality sound in smaller packages, and the CHT 500 SurroundBar takes soundbars to the next level...The CHT 500 is the answer to those who simply do not have the capability to set up a true 5.1 or 7.1 speaker system and want to experience high quality sound. Rated 9.5 - Exquisite"
