In-Ceiling Ambience, Easy Installation
This round in-ceiling loudspeaker is the high performance built-in with your budget in mind. It achieves superior detail and imaging—making it perfect for even front stage stealth home theater system positions—with an aimable 1-inch silk dome tweeter. This tweeter features a tiny, powerful neodymium magnet structure, and is positioned on an offset drive unit with a 15° tilt. Aim it for excellent imaging even in off-axis listening positions. This wide-dispersion design delivers uniform sound coverage even in larger rooms. Paint the grilles for a professionally stealth in-ceiling installation effect.
TC80i Features:
Easy one-cut, drop-in installation puts built-in audio within reach, with Perfect Fit templates, a precision flange, and (available) pre-construction brackets; achieve secure, vibration-free efficiency with a simple turn of the patented Rotating Cam system.
Rustproof stainless steel hardware, durable butyl rubber surrounds and powder coated aluminum grilles make TCi Series speakers suitable for high moisture areas like bathrooms, transitional spaces or even under eaves or in the ceiling of an enclosed porch. (TCi series are not suitable for exposed outdoor use. For outdoor speaker fun, use our Atrium® Series.)
Paintable grilles let you build them in, and then forget all about them; TCi Series practically disappear into any room.
Silk dome tweeters deliver clear and detailed highs, without fatigue, even at high volume.
TCi Speakers are specially engineered to utilize the “virtual enclosure” of your in-wall and in-ceiling space to enhance their bass response and smooth low frequency blending with the midrange. In-wall performance enclosures are available separately for even more superior dynamics!
Polk’s proprietary, patented Dynamic Balance® technology allows our engineers to design out distortion-causing driver and system resonances, so you only hear the good sounds.
Easily accessible custom audio controls allow you to tweak your sound for optimum performance in any installation: Use the reflective room (tweeter) compensation switch to digitally compensate for harsh reflective surfaces, and the wall distance setting toggle to compensate for proximity to corners or adjacent walls.
PowerPort® bass venting is Polk’s patented design for smoothly transitioning the air flow from the port into your listening area, eliminating turbulence and distortion, for bigger, more efficient, deep bass impact.
TCi Series speakers are timbre-matched to Polk RTiA speakers to insure utterly seamless blending from speaker to speaker in systems that combine traditional and built-in speakers.
TCi Series speakers are packaged one-per-box, so you can use singles as front or rear center channels, or as additional-zone speakers anywhere.
All Polk products are made using the best materials and the most advanced manufacturing techniques. They pass the industry’s most exhaustive quality tests, including drop testing, extreme signal response and UV & salt exposure testing. Polk loudspeakers are built to perform for a lifetime.

A solid, affordable choice for home theater systems, especially those with an active subwoofer to add critical, low-frequency bass. Their bright timbre makes them worth considering for both music, HDTV and movies.
Weaknesses:
In spite of the bright timber, the reduced bass response bandwidth specs (30 to 27,000Hz instead of the more typical 30-20,000Hz-range found in more expensive speakers) makes a pair of these slightly less satisfying for music if installed in rooms without a separate subwoofer. Use them with a sub and set the crossover to handle the low frequency range below 27,000Hz. With a limited 90dB sensitivity, you probably shouldn't drive these at the very highest volumes for music in large, cavernous rooms, but they are excellent at normal listening levels in typical U.S. homes.
Review:
Polk's TC80i in-ceiling speakers are nicely engineered, passive two-way, 8 Ohm speakers with specs that are well-suited for use with typical A/V Receivers on the market (with 10-125 watt amplifiers). They are crafted for really easy installation in drywall. The speaker and grille cover each have a solid feel, excellent form and fit, and even are paintable. We paired them up in an eight-foot ceiling with a different speaker brand with a similar (bright) timbre (which we already owned) and used them as rear speakers in a 7:1 home theater system in a mid-sized den with drywall, a carpeted floor and curtains to absorb sounds. They mounted solidly in the ceiling and clamped in tightly. The tweeter can be easily aimed at your target area. Together, the pair delivers very good surround sound and with little if any noticeable distortion and no rattling or other unwanted, extraneous squeaks or vibration noises. The TC80i speakers proved to be an excellent purchase for our use. They also didn't cost an arm and a leg and provide middle Americans with good value at a reasonable price. For just a little more money, they are much better them those home theater-in-a-box sound systems.

Review:
I have a pair of Rti4's as my front main speakers. Our house came prewired for "IN-CEILING" speakers so I thought I would give them a try. It only too a few min's to put them in and hook it all up. For a test I put on Rush 2112 and WOW these sound great then came a movie Fantastic 4 in DTS once again GRERAT. So if you have the pre wire for in-ceiling and don't want to spend for LCi these are great. Here is the system I have them hooked up to.
