Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Command Bar do everything an Amazon Dot or Echo does?

The Command Bar supports nearly all Alexa commands and skills. Features that are not currently supported include calling, drop-in, announcements, messaging, named timers and reminders, alternative wake word, custom alarm sounds and routines.

We are working closely with Amazon to add these features as soon as they are available to us. When available, the Command Bar will automatically update itself.

Can I use my voice and the Command Bar to control my TV or cable box?

The Command Bar does not directly control your TV or cable/sat box. However, if your TV or cable/sat box supports Alexa Skills, you can enable the Skill for your device and control your device with voice commands through your Polk Command bar. For example, you can ask Alexa to change the channel, find and record your favorite movies and TV shows, or control playback for all your favorite content. For more information, contact your TV manufacturer or cable/sat box provider.

Is Fire TV included?

While the Command Bar is Fire TV compatible, Fire TV is not included and is sold separately.

How do I set up my Polk Command Bar?

To set up your Polk Command Bar, check if your TV has got an HDMI input, labelled "ARC". If your TV does not have an ARC-enabled HDMI input, connect the Command Bar to your TVs Optical output. We still recommend to connect your Command Bar to your TV using an HDMI cable, so you can take advantage of the CEC (Consumer Electronics Control) functionality. This feature disables your TV speakers, provides an on-screen volume graphic, when you adjust the volume or mute your soundbar and you can even control your Command Bar using your TVs remote control.

Now position your Command Bar and connect it to an AC outlet. Then position your Subwoofer and connect it to an AC outlet, as well.

Once plugged in, they are powered on. The Command Bar and Subwoofer should pair automatically. This should take about 30 seconds.

You can verify that the Command Bar and Subwoofer have been paired by looking for a solid green light on the back of your Subwoofer ("BAR SYNC").

Now you are ready for audio playback on your Command Bar.

Is it possible to integrate the Polk CommandBar into a Alexa Multiroom Group?

Yes, the Polk Command Bar is the world’s first third party device that can be integrated into an Alexa Multiroom group, together with other Echo devices or Command Bars. Simply say "Alexa, play Music everywhere", and hear your music played across the complete group.

How does it work?

1. The Echo Speaker and the Command Bar (s) should be integrated into the same home network and registered to the same Amazon account.

2. The current firmware 206 for the Polk Command Bar must be installed. Your device should perform this update automatically.

3. Open the Amazon app and click on the "Devices" tab. Once you’ve done this, you will then need to click on the ‘+’ symbol in the upper right-hand corner.

4. Then select "Add Multiroom Speaker"

5. After selecting a name for the multiroom group, you can then select the individual speakers that you would like to play within it, such as an echo and the Polk Command Bar.

6. Once you’ve done this, you’re ready to go. Now you can ask Alexa to play music on your ‘group name’ and hear it played across all applicable devices.

Will the Command Bar work with other Amazon products?

Yes, as long as all products are linked to the same Amazon account, the speaker closest to you will reply with a response from Alexa.

If you have more than one Alexa device that uses the same wake word, Alexa responds from the device you're closest to using a feature called "Echo Spatial Perception” or “ESP". For ESP to work properly, all of your devices must be linked to the same Amazon account.

Why is my Command bar switching input automatically back to TV approximately a minute after I’ve selected a different source?
This would normally happen when a feature on the TV called "CEC" is enabled (Normally disabled by default). This allows for the TV sound to be output to the bar over HDMI (ARC). The TV thinks that because CEC has been turned on, that you MUST want to hear the TV audio, so it sends a signal controlling the Command Bar and forcing it to switch inputs. The TV does this, not the sound bar.

The best solution is to go into your TV's settings and disable the CEC controls. Every TV manufacturer calls CEC something difference; for instance, Sharp calls it “Aquos Link”, while Samsung calls it “Anynet+”.

Why does the bottom of the Polk MagniFi Mini feel warm to the touch?

The MagniFi Mini is a network active device that includes Google Cast / Google Home and it is constantly searching your Wi-Fi network to remain connected or to find out if you're trying to stream music or other audio. For that reason, some of the electronics in the sound bar remain active even when it enters "sleep" mode, letting you easily stream music over Wi-Fi when you want to.

Note that the warmth you feel will not damage the speaker in any way and passes all Safety and Regulatory requirments.

For information on how to correct the Polk MagniFi Mini "warmer-than-normal" running issue, click here

What is the USB port on the Polk MagniFi Mini used for?

The USB port is for manufacturing purposes only. It cannot be used for firmware updates nor can you play music through it.

How do I update the firmware on the Polk MagniFi Mini?

To update the firmware on the Polk MagniFi Mini, you must be connected to the Internet via Wi-Fi or a cable using the built-in Ethernet port on the back of the MagniFi Mini (network cable not included).

Hardwired connections via Ethernet do not need any additional setup. If you plan to get updates via WiFi, you will need to download the Google Home app (free from Apple App Store or Google Play Store) and follow the directions to connect the MagniFi to your network. Once it's connected to the Internet, updates will occur automatically overnight.

Why am I hearing sound from the Polk MagniFi Mini and my TV at the same time?
Make sure to turn off your TV's internal speakers to hear sound strictly from the Polk MagniFi Mini.
Will the Polk MagniFi Mini eventually run cooler?
We have found ways to turn off several of the internal electronics in "sleep" mode so that the MagniFi Mini can run cooler. You can look forward to this update with the release of our new OTA software that installs automatically as long as the sound bar is connected to your Wi-Fi network. All OTA updates are pushed overnight.

Using Wi-Fi enables higher audio quality playback.

What can cause Wi-Fi connection problems?
Sometimes connectivity issues on your Wi-Fi network can cause problems with the performance of Polk products. These include dropouts, when audio playback is interrupted during a song, stuttering, when a song has small skips while you are listening to it, and lost connections, where a speaker is completely disconnected from the streaming group.

In most instances, these issues are each caused by your Wi-Fi set up, and can be easily fixed with a simple upgrade to your network. Not only will your Polk products work better, your overall experience with Wi-Fi at home should improve quite a bit.

Here are some specific conditions to check for if you are experiencing connectivity issues:

Older routers / crowded network conditions:

- You have a router provided by your Internet Service Provider, or
- Your router is 802.11g (or lower),or
- Your router is five years old (or older), or
- You are using Polk products in an area with many wireless networks nearby, or
- You are using Polk products in an environment with a lot of wireless devices (like phone systems, earpieces, headphones, or microwaves)

We recommend upgrading to a new router/access point, with at least 802.11n dual band wireless. The upgrade will improve the performance of all of your streaming activities, not just Polk.

Large streaming range or difficult streaming environment:

- You live in a larger home, or
- Your Polk products are placed beyond several thick walls or floors

Be sure you have a top quality router, as suggested above. Plus, we recommend adding one or more additional wireless access points to your network. This will extend the range and reliability of your Wi-Fi at home.

Building materials that hinder Wi-Fi:
- Your Polk products are in an area with a lot of pipes, metal, tile or water flow

These materials may be interfering with the Wi-Fi signal getting to the speaker, causing dropouts. Try moving the speaker a few cm away from the area.

Wireless network extenders aren’t working:
- You are using wireless network extenders at home, and still experiencing performance issues

We recommend wiring the extended access points to your main router.

Competing audio products disrupting the network:
- You have another wireless audio system in your home that uses the Wi-Fi network

We recommend disconnecting or unplugging it when your Polk products are in use. Some of these products use switches and network extenders that are not Wi-Fi certified. These products may disrupt normal Wi-Fi traffic even when they are not active.
