Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sounds from above! Great sound! Already had 4 in one room and added 2 more in another room. Fantastic speakers, nice low profile design for inside the ceiling.

Questions

How do I connect to the sound? Bought a home with in cieling rc80i speakers installed but unable to figure out how to connect to the device. Is it wifi or Bluetooth or something else? Please help

Asked by: Mb423
Hello, These are considered passive speakers and require speaker wire to be connected to an Amp or AVR. If the home came with the receiver then you can use that to power the speakers. If there is no AVR or amp, then you will need one and we recommend Denon or Marantz products to power these speakers. You may need to look for a wall plate that has binding posts where the speaker wire can be run to from the AVR.

Garage project 5.1 system (~ 450 Sq Ft) - what would be a better choice for 5 in-ceiling speakers - Polk Audio RC80I or Polk Audio VT60 ? Also suggest a budget sub-woofer to pair with.

Asked by: SB16
Hello, Both are wonderful speakers that are well suited to for a project like this. Personally I would likely choose the VT60 for it's slightly better frequency response if you were only going with inwall speakers but with a paired sub, both speakers would shine in that space. The RC80i also have pivotable tweeters to better aim them towards the listening position. With the RC80i you can pair a PSW 10 which will be a solid pick to fill out that space. You could potentially use two subs for that space as well. More information about the sub can be found here https://www.polkaudio.com/en-us/product/home-speakers/subwoofers/psw-10/112479-new.html

I plan on installing these in my basement where I have a drop ceiling. Would you recommend an enclosure to help ensure better sound? If so which enclosures might you recommend that would fit the speaker?

Asked by: adamfish
Hello, An enclosure is not needed with our speakers as they are designed with an infinite baffle design that negates the need for an enclosure. RCi speakers utilize the “virtual enclosure” of your in-wall and in-ceiling space to enhance their bass response and smooth low frequency blending with the midrange.

I’m adding two of these for overhead effect’s and was wondering how far in front of the soft they should go, also do they need a minimum distance apart.

Asked by: Bigzee3
Hello, Since it sounds like you are thinking of positioning these for Atmos, we would recommend taking a look at Dolby's site on speaker placement. You can select the setup you have and it will give you guidelines on how to position speakers for the optimal sound placement. Other things to take into factor would be room acoustics as that can change how sound is perceived. You will want to factor in hard surfaces as that can create a lot of reflections and throw off how the overhead effects can sound. Here is the link to Dolby's guides on Atmos https://www.dolby.com/about/support/guide/speaker-setup-guides/

Can I purchase 5 of these to make my 5.1 Home Theater? Would they as proper 5 channel speaker set?

Asked by: Kannu
Hello, These speakers would make a great 5.1 channel theater. You would just have to be mindful of the speaker placement to achieve the best sound in your room. We would recommend taking a look at Dolby's recommendations as well as speaking with an installer to get a better idea of how to set this up. https://www.dolby.com/about/support/guide/speaker-setup-guides/

Can these work in a soffit outside but not in rain? Can they work alone with just the two speakers?

Asked by: Wonkadog
Hello, We would not recommend that these be used anywhere outside. Due to weather and temperature changes, this can damage the speakers as well as changes in relative humidity. If you are looking for speakers outside, we can recommend either our outdoor series speakers such as the Atrium or Patio series, you can also take a look at our Marine speakers as they are fully suited to be exposed to the elements such as rain.

Asked by: NS7885
Hello, yes, the Polk Audio RC80i In-Ceiling speakers can be connected to 220v AV receivers or Amplifiers. Please note that the RC80i speakers are passive and require a hard-line speaker wire connection to an amplifier.
