True Stereo

For the first time in nearly 25 years, Polk is introducing a new SDA speaker – the Polk Legend L800. The Legend L800 floorstanding speaker features new patents that build on the original SDA mission of maintaining full stereo separation all the way from the source to your ears. As a result, L800 renders the most lifelike detailed, stereo imaging you have ever heard from Polk. The speakers seem to disappear as the sonic images fill your listening room with startling realism. It does this by minimizing the inherent distortion found in all stereo speakers known as interaural crosstalk (IAC) by utilizing a second column of transducers called a dimensional array. The Legend L800 speakers are the most revealing and best sounding SDA speakers Polk has ever made.

Polk innovation, legendary SDA technology

3d audio compatibility optional height module

For the ultimate listening experience, the L800 can be used for the front stage of any home theater or as side and rear surrounds. Elevate your sound of your home theater set up with our optional Legend L900 height module (sold separately). This works with today’s new home theater technologies including: Dolby Atmos, DTS, DTS:X, DTS:X Virtual, IMAX Enhanced and Auro-3D.

Patented Power Port

Better Bass By Design

For Legend Series we enhanced our patented Power Port® technology by fine-tuning the geometry of the port flare to smoothly transition air flow from the speaker into your listening area. The result? Louder, cleaner bass and more defined midrange by minimizing the turbulence, distortion, and port noise typically found in traditional ported speaker designs.

Polk believes cabinets should be beautiful but add nothing to the playback. Polk Legend cabinets, braces, and internal enclosures are carefully engineered to minimize unwanted internal standing waves and eliminate unwanted resonances. The result is a cabinet that rigidly holds the transducers while faithfully reproducing recordings.

Comes with a grille to cover the front baffle and a second grille for the top to cover the optional height module when installed. Computer modeled for a precision fit and to minimize sonic interference. The acoustically inert magnetic grilles offer a clean aesthetic without sacrificing sound.

L800's Dual binding posts support both bi-wire and bi-amping for the most direct, efficient, and loss-less connection possible. Plus conveniently-placed connectors for the L900 Height Module provide easy cabling and a clean presentation.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Secrets of Home Theater and High Fidelity Review I have owned these wonderful speakers for over 2 years. Secrets of Home Theater and High Fidelity has a thorough review here: https://hometheaterhifi.com/reviews/speaker/floor-standing/polk-audio-legend-l800-floor-standing-loudspeaker-review/

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Astronomical I almost did not buy the Polk Legend L800 speakers because of the Youtube Video Reviews.  My experience with them only and I cannot speak for anyone else, but my source is Movies on VUDU where I now own 397 Movies the vast majority is in Dolby Vision and Dolby Audio and Youtube Videos where I have of 1500 Audiophile videos saved in a Folder and The Audio on Movies and Youtube videos are worth the money Polk is asking for. When I bought theL600  and paired them with the Onkyo TX-NR7100 it was Extraordinary then I replaced the AVR with a Onkyo TX-RZ50 then they went from Extraordinary to Phenomenal and this is in my Guest, Game Home Theater room. So I was going to buy another pair for the living room since I was so Impressed but for some reason Bestbuy on longer had the L600 in Black Ash, the only choice I was left with was the L800 in Black Ash when I got them I paired them with the TX-NR7100 and I could not believe that these L800 are Astronomical they are doing more with less connected to the Onkyo TX-NR7100, I would have totally missed out, I am so happy Bestbuy did not have the L600 in Black Ash and it forced me to buy the L800 in Black Ash the difference was noticeable instantly and the Youtube review videos would have caused me to miss out on speakers that are Astronomical. I don't have side or rear speakers but these speakers make sound come out the wall not bounce off of the wall but come out of the wall if the audio is there  and I can't believe what these speakers can do.

Questions

I have Polk L800. Will it work with mono block amp?

Asked by: jcarabonita
Hello, and thank you for your inquiry. The L800 will not provide full SDA with a differential/balanced output amplifier. For this reason, I ask that you contact our support team so that we may provide you with further information to help determine if your desired amplifiers will work with our L800 speakers. Please call 800-377-7655 or visit our support page at https://www.polkaudio.com/en-us/contact-us.html We look forward to hearing from you.

After reading I’m curious about the L800 and using it with an emotiva DR-3 can you not use the SDA technology with a push pull amp such as the DR-3

Asked by: Ashby
The L800 SDA speakers are compatible with almost all types of amplification. Any amp or amps that are not equipped with Balanced Differential Outputs are ok to use with the L800. If there is a possibility that you may have an amplifier with fully Balanced Differential outputs, it is recommended to contact the amplifier manufacturer to confirm.

My 2 antique Class A Krell Mk 2 100's and a Gallo SA Bass Amp drive Gallo Reference Nucleus 3.1's. Way back when I had SDA 1's. Do the Legend L800's inputs allow for the low ends to be separately driven?

Asked by: WInce
Dual binding posts are provided on the Polk Audio L800 speakers that support both bi-wire and bi-amping.

I’ve bought new SDA1’s in  the late 80’s. They’re now connected to a Sherbourn 150 watt/Ch amp. Q~What is the max amp you recommend on the new L 800’s. I’m interested.  Thanks

For the L800 would you recommend a power Amp with more than the maximum handling power of 300 wpc or less than 300 wpc?

Asked by: T Fit
Hi, so a better question to ask from experience is: how much power and current do I need?  The L800s have two large 10” drivers and they need current. Not that these speskers are rated 2.4-4ohm so we are talking 4ohm amplification.  I had an NAD M28 driving my L800s for 18 months, and one day I plugged them into my NAD 777v3 amp, and much to my surprise the NAD had way more performance in the bottom end. So consulting a very well known name in the industry I was advised the Purify 400 module at 480w @ 4ohm had less current than my NAD 160w @ 4ohm.  I then tried an XPA7 G3 and it had more current than the NAD, but a lower performing top end.  So the answer is you need power and current. And pay particular attention to the fact that the SDA technology cannot be connected to a fully balanced push pull amp like Emotiva HC1 or DRF amps. Anything using bridged technology.  I also tried the NAD M10v2 Hypex and it too lacked current. So look to a purify 7040 chip which has 40a per channel vs the 400 chip that only has 26a.

What is the wattage output on the speakers

Asked by: Ulfe
Hi Ulfe, The device in an audio system which has a power output is the power amplifier - which is either a separate component, or is housed withing a receiver, or a stereo integrated amplifier. Speakers have a listed recommended delivery from the amplifier - and in this instance, the wattage recommendation from the amplifier for the L800 is 25-300 watts per channel. Most speakers go loud enough to damage our ear drums long before they are receiving their maximum recommended power rating in a regular domestic setting.

I'm going to connect these speakers to the Denon PMA 110 amp. What is the best option to connect the two...as in the best speaker wire or cable to do the job.

Asked by: Dhnc
Hello, quite a system you are putting together. The Denon PMA 110 and Polk Audio L800 speakers will pair nicely. When it comes to speaker wires, there are several brands to choose from. You may want to consider Bi-wire cabling from AudioQuest. AQ offers many choices to fit any budget. When Bi-wiring, be sure to remove the jumpers on the binding posts.
