Rated 5 out of 5 by from Home Theater in a box Rated 5 out of 5 stars Home Theater in a box Posted 3 weeks ago. I'm shocked at how good a sound bar can sound. I have had a few sound bars over the years and they all have performed fine and better then built in tv speakers. They lacked that cinematic sound or booming bass. This Polk sound bar is amazing! I wish I could give it more stars as it really deserves more than just 5. The sub with this sound bar is huge (10inch) where others are 5 or 6 inches. The larger sub takes up more space but is well worth it. The sound bar itself is bigger than others but it has 11 built in speakers, 3 HDMI input ports, optical connection, and USB. There is also a connect button on the back for the sub and surround sound speakers. This sound bar does not have the surround speakers, but you can easily add them if you wanted. I have the sound bar hooked up through eARC on my TV. This allowed us to control the volume and inputs via the sound bar remote. Our tv only has two HDMI inputs so this perfect that we actually have 3 instead of two like before. It's also really nice that we only need to use one remote to control our setup. Speaking of setup, this was very simple to setup. Plug in the HDMI, and power plugs and you are all setup. The sub connected automatically, but if not, you just need to use the connect button on the back of the sound bar. The top of the sound bar has controls for volume, Bluetooth, input (for Hdmi), mute, and power. The front of the sound bar also has a display for adjustments. The display is not always on and only shows for a few seconds while making changes. Even without making any changes to the sound bar (adjusting treble, bass, etc) it sounded awesome. We adjusted the settings, and we were blown away at how fantastic this sound bar sounds! I had the bass at the highest level, and you could feel the bass traveling through the floor, it felt like being at the movies. This sub is not a bangy sounding sub like others, this one actually produces bass to not only hear it but to feal the full impact of it. I'm a bass fanatic and this was two thumbs up for me. You can hear each individual sound in a movie and voices are clearly heard. I think if we had the two surround channels it would make it even better, but we are still impressed without them. I could go on and on about this sound bar and how great it is. We didn't realize what we were missing in sound quality until we got this sound bar. This is truly a home theater in an easy to setup package. This would work for a home theater or your living room, you cannot go wrong!

Questions

Are there any plans for an app giving users full EQ control over the soundbar? I'm not a big fan of the preset EQs, they sound okay but kind of flat to me. Maybe due to my tinnitus. Given hearing is so subjective full EQ would seem crucial not optional.

Asked by: zielwolf
No, there are no plans to add an app-driven EQ. The Placement of the soundbar and room acoustics may assist with the dynamics. Try pulling the Bar forward if the unit is set back on a flat surface like a cabinet. This will help with sound dispersion. Room Acoustics can play a significant role in the overall sound quality of any system. Place an area rug if the room has hard floors, curtains, or acoustic panels are recommended.

How many watts does the MagniFi Max AX soundbar have? How many watts does the 10 inch subwoofer have? I am asking to compare this to your previous model, the 9500 BT, which had 340 watts for soundbar coupled with a 150 watt powered 8 inch subwoofer.

Asked by: mwt2573
Hello, The wattage specification is not listed because wattage ratings can only offer a meaningful guide when matching an amplifier to speakers. As the speakers and the amplifier for this package have already been chosen as a good pairing from a power point of view, it means the amplifier power is already sufficient to allow for the desired performance of the speakers within. Some speakers can sound impressive with only 2 watts being fed into them, other speakers can sound under-powered when receiving 85 watts, so the wattage rating for an amplifier which has it's own speaker built-in doesn't really tell much of a story.

How "powerful" is this system, don't want to blown out of room? I am considering purchasing as my 18 year old BOSE 321 system died. It would be used in the 3rd bedroom AKA the Mancave approx 11x11, screen/bar to ears about 9'.

Asked by: CaptEric
Hello, The MagniFi MAX AX is designed to work well with a a room with the dimensions of 11 x 11'. Despite being a fraction of the price a Bose 321 system was listed at 18 years ago, it isn't lkely to disappoint given what you are used to for sound quality from the Bose system.

Hi, I was wondering if it's at all possible to pair more than 1 subwoofer with the Magnifi Max AX line of products? Secondarily, are there any plans to update the firmware to allow for Subwoofer level control, separate from the 'Bass' setting?

Asked by: Subwoofer Love
I was wondering the same thing...I just received mine and thought a separate control for subwoofer output would be a great feature. I am also noticing that the subwoofer is seeing to high of frequencies. An app to control these features would be amazing and would make this product more appealing to consumers.

Asked by: Moby
Yes, The Polk Audio MagniFi Max AX soundbar is compatible with a Sony TV with HDMI ARC/eARC. Once connected and Sync/HDMI CEC control is activated, the Sony remote can control Power and Volume over the soundbar.
