Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this sub! I have had this sub since about 2016 and it still works like new. I have a 7.1 Yamaha Receiver, and all of my other speakers are the Monitor 2, I have the 70's, 50's, and the 40 series, and I love them as well. I bought them all at the same time as the PSW111 Polk sub, and they are still like new also. I have them in a bedroom, and they will rock you out. I recommend Polk to anyone who ask about speakers. This PSW111 sub by Polk is dynamite in a small package. It will vibrate the walls in my house, and the hole setup is great for movies also. I highly recommend them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Replacement for old PSW111 Had this same subwoofer for 12+ years before it recently died. I tried to have it fixed by a local electronics repair shop but he couldn't get it to work properly, so it was time to replace it with a new one. Decided to go with the same thing since it worked well for me for a long time, and puts out nice tight bass.

Questions

Is there anyway I can hook it up to a television without a receiver?

Asked by: Jblaze1086
Yes, connecting the PSW 111 directly to a TV is possible for certain televisions. The PSW 111 comes equipped with a Low Pass filter and RCA inputs. Check the Television specifications to see if it allows for Audio Out with the internal TV speakers still active. Alternatively, on rare occasions, some televisions offer a sub-out feature.

Can I bypass the built in amp by using an external amp to feed in a speaker level input to the speaker wire inputs on the rear of the unit? (The internal amp of the PSW111 appears to be broken, and I am out of the 5 year warranty period.)

Asked by: speakerman77
You can bypass any sub's built-in amp and effectively convert an active sub into a passive sub by removing all the sub's internal components except for the speaker driver, then wire the speaker driver directly to the rear speaker-level input ports. Then use a hot glue gun to seal air holes created by the other now-unused rear ports. Congrats, you've just performed your first ampectomy! Then buy a "mono amp" or "subwoofer amp" - expect a suitable one to cost $50-$100. Run a cable from the sub-out or pre-out ports of your existing amp/receiver to the input port(s) of the new mono/sub amp, and run speaker wire from the mono/sub amp to your sub. Ensure that there's a sub crossover frequency control somewhere in your setup, otherwise the sub will sound muddy due to it trying to output higher frequencies.

My amp has no RCA subwoofer out nor L&R RCA subwoofer preout but has 3.5mm subwoofer preout. How to connect to PSW III ?

To use the 3.5mm subwoofer pre-out, A 3.5 to RCA wire is required. The Polk Audio PSW 111 also provides a Hi-Level speaker line input. The subwoofer can be connected via your speaker terminals.

I have an eight inch powered subwoofer from your firm. However, I cannot find neither my power cord or my receiver to sub-woofer connector. Is this something you sell after--market? It's a standard plug in power cord w/femaile prong recepticle end.

Asked by: Eric Fremstad
Hello, The PSW-111 sub-woofer power cord is a standard figure of eight power cord. This is easily found on websites like Amazon. Be sure to order the length you require. The connection from the sub-woofer to an AVR is a single RCA cable. Also easily found on the same websites as where you'd find the power cord.

Is this ok to use on a thick carpeted floor or would the carpet somewhat deaden the bass response?

Asked by: Rich1340
Hi Rich1340, Generally, thicker carpet doesn't much impede the bass response with a downward-firing sub-woofer, but it does depend on how thick the carpet is.

What is the Sensitivity rating for this unit. It is not outlined in any of the tech documentation or listed on the website.

Asked by: SharkDude
The Polk Audio PSW-111 has its own dedicated 300-watt amplifier built-in. Audio inputs provided are LFE or Speaker level inputs.

If my receiver only has one RCA input for sub how can I hook up the sub to it bc the sub has 2 RCA

Asked by: BossHogg
The two RCA inputs allow for connection flexibility with stereo amplifiers. When connecting to an AV receiver with a subwoofer output (LFE), use only the one labeled R/LFE in. It is Red in color.
