Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great speakers for home theater I've had these speakers as front LR in my 7.1 system for about 6 months. I'm so glad I went with Polk. I've had lots of brands but this is my first Polk system. I started my selection with 11 brands and narrowed it down to Polk. I felt like all of the other brands were some kind of compromise. Out of my final 3 choices it was also the only one that was not way overpriced for a high quality speaker. My room is a multi-purpose family room with lots of acoustic challenges and the 265-LS fronts do a great job of filling the room. I'm running a Polk R300 for center and RC60i's for both side and rear surrounds.

Questions

I'm using the 265-LS for front L and R and was planning to use the 255c-LS for the center, but my wall stud is right down the middle of my screen. What center cabinet speaker would be preferable to combine with the 265s?

Asked by: DD602
Hello, depending on the available space below the Television, I recommend either the R300 or R400 speakers. Both are equipped with a similar Ring Radiator tweeter. If space is available, I recommend the R400 center channel speaker. The center channel speaker is called upon the most out of all channels, and upgrading the center speaker is recommended when possible.

Is the 265-LS a true 3-way speaker or is this a 2.5 way speaker similar to the 265-RT? The details/specs section doesn't make this clear.

Asked by: MrBond
Hello, Technically it is a 3 way design, the bass driver has a very limited pass band only up to 100 Hertz, due to this some some people call them a 2.5 way system instead of a 3 way.

If using the 265-LS for front L and R. Which would be a better center, the 255c-LS or another 265-LS? I have rci85’s for surround and rear surround and RC6s for the overhead speakers.

Asked by: Rybob1973
Anthony Grimani recommends putting a 3-way speaker horizontally instead of using a "center" channel speaker like the 255C-LS, assuming you can fit the horizontal speaker between wall studs and it's not too far below your TV (you don't want your front sound stage to have a strong V shape). That being said, I have the 255C-RT and feel it works fine. If you want the best though, a horizontal 3-way is the way to go per the pros (unless you have an AC projector screen then go vertical).

Can you aim the tweeter in the 265ls?

Asked by: Dwconrad
Hello, These speakers do not have an aimable tweeter. This will have to be accounted for based on where you decide to install the speakers.

are in wall enclosures available for the 265 ls? How about construction cut in brackets? Part numbers? Are the 265 ls out door rated?

Asked by: jomama
Hello, we do not have any wall enclosures for this model nor do we have preconstruction brackets. These are meant to be installed using the dog ear brackets onto drywall using this template that is included https://www.polkaudio.com/on/demandware.static/-/Library-Sites-polk_northamerica_shared/default/dw790d8221/downloads/265rt-265ls-mountingdoc-en-es.pdf These speakers are also not outdoor rated and only rated for indoor use as they do not handle high humidity enviroments or drastic temperature changes.

I'd like to use these 265-LS's in my basement. The walls are framed with 2x4s in front of the original poured concrete walls w/ a 2" gap from the studs to the concrete. So it's open space behind the wood. Is this okay for these speakers?

Asked by: bryguy
To add to the previous response, I would like to add that notching out the wood to accommodate for the dog ears may be required. The dog ears (Tabs) can accommodate approximately a 1.25" thickness. Notching a channel for the tabs/dog ears will be necessary for a 2" thickness.

Is there any possibility that you would ever offer this exact configuration in a cabinet as a conventional speaker?

Asked by: Dee Cee
Hello, and thank you for your question. This is a concept I have yet to hear from our design team. However, may I recommend that you consider our R200 or R100 Bookshelf speakers? Both offer superior sonic benefits and are available in Black, White, or Brown finishes. https://www.polkaudio.com/en-us/product/home-speakers/bookshelf/reserve-r200/300029.html?dwvar_300029_color=Black
