Rated 5 out of 5 by Emlyn from An excellent large center channel I have this with a pair of R600s. Crystal clear highs and provides for strong dialog clarity. The center speaker is the most important in a home theater system. Although it's a large center channel speaker and has a wide and deep cabinet it's not too tall compared to others.

How much of an upgrade is this from my current CS10?

Hello, the Polk Audio CS10 is still a formidable center channel. However, one should notice a significant upgrade when moving to the new R400 center channel. With its new driver technology, advanced Pinnacle ring radiator tweeter with an integrated waveguide, and upgraded crossover network, the R400 center speaker is the clear winner.

Is it's good to match r400 with S20 as LR ch?

LIKE MOST POLK AUDIO SPEAKERS, the R400 and S20 will make for a fine match. However, I recommend pairing the S20 speakers with the ES30 center speaker or the R100 bookshelf speakers with the R400 center speaker for even better synergy.

How many inches should the R400 be away from the wall?

The rear-firing X-Port does provide some flexibility when it comes to placement. However, I recommend placing the R400 center speaker at least 4" away from the wall if possible.

Can the R400 be used as L and R like the R350 if stood on its side? Are the rubber feet removable?

Theoretically, it can be used as an L/C/R but was purposely built as a center channel. I recommend using the R400 as a center channel and the R200 Bookshelf speakers as your Left and Right.

I just purchased the R400. Does Polk make a center channel stand - or recommend a manufacturer that has stands to match the size / color of the R400 in walnut? Thx

Hello, we currently do not offer speaker stands. However, Sanus speaker stands are often used and recommended. Finding a stand in Walnut may require a bit of research online. What should I set the crossover to?

Deciding on the final crossover setting depends on a few factors, listening preferences, room dimensions, room acoustics, and partnering speakers and subwoofer. 80Hz is a good starting point.

Is it okay to place the R400 on a shelf that is closed on the back, sides, and top with only 1 inch of clearance on each side and above? I was concerned if it needed more space due to the rear X-ports.

Hello, I will work in the environment you describe, but as there are ports on the rear of the R400, it is best to give it at least half an inch of space at back. Otherwise the low frequency information might sound a bit bloated.
